GOT SLEEP?

Leading the hectic life I have this year, I've noticed the lack of sleep I am getting. Not only does it affect my teaching, but it affects my mood, my running, and my ability to think clearly (something much needed in this profession!). I constantly try to get more sleep, but there is always something else that needs to be done and my brain keeps me awake. Perhaps this is an innate disposition I have to deal with. Thank goodness for coffee!!

I completely agree with you, for three years i have had absolutely no problem with sleep... then came my senior year. With countless things needed to be done, for instance being in plays, school work, my regular occupation known as American Eagle, and of course college apps i just seem to be slowly becoming an insomniac. I got a helpful tip about coffee from someone the other day and i think it most definetly works. When you go to make your pot of coffee in the morning (my suggestion the Starbucks African Brew) take your coffee mug and hold it underneath your coffee maker so that you get the first cup of coffe. In this first cup of coffee is the majority of the caffene that would be in a full pot. This gives you that extra JOLT of energy and should keep you going just that much longer.

All I can picture is a cartoon of a man in bathrobe with bloodshot eyes and old torn grey slippers, hands shaking, and the procelain mug slowly easing its shakes from its holder and leveling off with the more coffee it attains...

My colleagues tell me I have enough "jolt" without the first cup...thanks for the comments Cam, I think I'll have to pass on the first cup though!

I can't seem to get enough sleep either. It definitely affects how I act and think throughout the day. If I got as much sleep that is recommended for people my age I wouldn't get anything done. I love caffeine and everything, but sometimes I feel like I depend on it too much. Actually, I think most people have been getting so used it it that it's hard for them to function normally without it. Either way, it's still a big help to make the day go by faster.

Good luck with getting more sleep. I heard that the 5 hour energy shot works. Maybe you should try it.

I agree i can hardly sleep. If im not in school then im at basketball or im at home doing my homework and studing for my test and quizes. I wake up everyday Monday-Friday at 5:30 to get ready for school. I usually don't get to bed until like 9:30-10 because i have so much to do at night. On weekends when we can relaxe i can't. Im either at my mom's and doing things with her or helping do things around the house or i have a rec. basketball game or im out doing things with my friends. Some people do drink coffee to help keep them awake but i don't because i don't like it.

Whats sleep again?
...Getting enough sleep hasnt been much of a problem for the past 2 years, but this year, theres so much going on that sleep seems to fade away until everything else is accomplished. With an average of about 6-7 hours of homework per night, and track everyday after school, and "early" night is now going to sleep at about 11:30, which is temporarily fine, I mean you get used to it, but I have a feeling that in the long run, at some point Im going to crash.
With any luck itll be after the AP tests in May though :]

this year has been the hardest for me sleeping wise. i think i feel more tired this year because i get up earlier and have more work to do. my day is so filled that by the time i finish everything for the next day, i just wanna go to bed. one problem for all kids and sleeping is the stress that school puts on you. i dont feel that i have yet adjusted to this years schedule and still have a lot to learn.

Sleep does play an important role in all our lives.Being a freshman this year comes with alot of stress.Classes are tough and sleep doesn't come to easily.I have three projects to worry about right now.My lack of sleep affects me as well, sometimes i find myself wanting to sleep in basically all my classes.Hopefully i'll get a good nights sleep soon.

As someone previously said, What's sleep?!

Getting up early in the morning to catch the bus to sit on it for 1 hour, then go to school, come home, and do homework (for HOURS!!!) & then try to find time for family related stuff i don't get to bed till 11:30 - 12

It does take a major toll on you and the people around you.

One reason is because your more susceptible to get sick. --and its not fun! Still waiting to figure out whats wrong with me... (haha- no its not that i'm crazy they already know that! jk)

As a freshman, i'm still trying to get into routine, but so far i'm failing greatly & slowly slipping behind. Two words: NOT GOOD!

For some reason this year has been the toughest, sleep wise. Sleep has been a thing of the past since my junior year has started, staying up into the wee hours of the morining to do projects and papers that are due the next day. Between working, looking at colleges and school, sleep is only a dream now. Now that I am doning the CNA program, and trying to pay for car insurance, weekends and vacations could not come sooner.

Sweet dreams. :]

Sleep isn't really an option anymore. I get up early in the morning and go to bed late. I probally get about 6 or less hours of sleep everynight. I'm very focused on school, I do my homework when I get home, then I normally go watch some television or go on my computer but with midterms coming I do more studying. I end up having to shower at 10:00 everynight, if I dont I will probally sleep in the next morning and not have time. After my shower I feel so awake I cant sleep, I end up just laying there thinking about the next day ahead and what homework I may have skipped or what test I didnt study for. Doing this over and over again is so boring and I dont like it at all.

I agree I never get enough sleep anymore. As a freshman it's a big transition as far as time managment goes. Between school, track, soccer, and homework I have almost no time to just hang out. Plus, I'm always wicked tired because I have to get up at 6 every morning and then I don't go to bed until aroud 11 everynight. I'm still not really used to it, but I'll get better at managing my time...eventually.
