Time and Dedication

So I was thinking the other day on my way home from grad school. I hate not giving something I do, work on, or commit to 100%. Something inside me says "get to your blog already and update will ya?" Then he says "be sure to get your 20 page research paper done for school." He then says, "Make sure you have your school plans done and put your syllabus on edline and update your grades." Soon after he says, "Oh yeah, and by the way, make sure you get your workouts planned for the track teams!" Finally, he questions, "did you get a run in today?"

Perhaps we take on too much at times. This year has been a learning experience for me. I know that in order to give that 100 % you have to take care of yourself first. You also have to work very hard and sacrifice a great deal of your own time for others (which is of course the epitome of teaching). I guess this is also part of growing up. I do not even have children of my own and I am feeling stressed at times. I do have a new-found respect for parents as that is a 24 hour a day job. I find that if I give at least a little time for myself each day (i.e. a run, watching a television show, reading, etc.) I am able to keep on pushing through the stressful times.

I am reminded of what it was like to be a senior. Trying to keep up with all my classes and grades, figuring out what I wanted to do with my life, doing sports, appeasing my parents, college applications, etc. Life has stages I guess. Each can be stressful in their own ways, but having people around you to listen (and write to) and respond helps.

There. That actually helped. I'm going to go back and listen to the voices in my head now. 100% here I come!

Whoa- I thought this blog had been deactivated! Now it has a heartbeat...but...how long will it live?

I know, I know....it will live in the hearts of many for centuries to come. It has been weighing on my conscience for a while. We are back in business though! Thanks for visiting. Come again!

Wow ... he writes! :)
We couldn't agree with you more about how taking care of yourself is most important. Sometimes, you just need a little "ME Time" or else you'd explode!

I saw the giant "NEW BLOG!!" comment on your board today, and felt bad, so decided to check it out.

Being a senior is most definitley not fun. It's fun, but it's crazy. I think that's why it's so fun, though. Like you said, doing all of these things can make you want to break down but in the end, I feel like it's worth it. Your life seems wicked intense right now, but you know in the end that you're a great teacher, coach, and soon you'll have a Masters to shove in people's faces. That's a cool thing.

I also think that finding peace in the little things does wonders as well. For instance, our creative writing class to me is a time when I can take a break from a hard or a bad day and relax and write and have a good time, but it's still not an easy class. It's a good time, which is what you need sometimes. So, yay for 100%!

I identify completely with the statement that we take on way too much at once. I am feeling way overextended and stressed, due to having a job, keeping up with homework (especially AP), constantly being assigned new projects, mid-terms creeping up, volunteering at my synagogue's Sunday school, running TAN, having a social life, and having time to myself.

Wow. I mean, you know you're doing a lot at once, but listing it all out like that makes me look nuts! Hopefully, after project due dates and mid-terms, things will calm down a little and I'll stop pulling my hair out!

Thanks Felicia. I'm not sure if the word is hectic. I think happily busy works better. Trust me, if I wasn't happy with what I do, I wouldn't be doing it. I love what I do! Keep working hard yourself and keep the bar high!
