So I went to dinner at this great pizza place in Stoughton the other night (Town Spa, I highly recommend it!). As I was sitting at my table I couldn't help but look at the table of four teenagers to the direct left of me. They were all sitting in close proximity to each other but were not talking to each other. Each one of them were feverishly texting or playing on their cell phones. Isn't the point of going out to eat to hang out and actually verbalize with whoever it is you are hanging with? I was disturbed because when their pizza came they ate and went right back to texting. Is the written, or should I say "texted" word more prevalent than the oral word? Should I be this disturbed by this? I am worried we are declining as a society in terms of communication. Or is this just another form and I have nothing to worry about?
I left my phone in my car and my chicken fingers, pizza, and conversation were great.

Good for you Mr. Taylor, and yes Town Spa is one of the best pizza establishments around....!!!
I too am very dismayed at the way teenages and young people are so attached to their cell phones. Yes I understand it's the age of technology, etc., etc., but it does seem that for an hour or two, a cell phone can be left in the car or at very least turned off, so as to give the "friends" you're with the respect and attention they deserve.
It's ashame that this new technology is dehumanizing personal relationships and sadder than that, is that it's just acceptable.
Also, congrats to all the successes with the track team. I loved track and was a captain myself when in school, and it can truly be an inspiring sport for many people.
Well Mr. Taylor, I agee with you about the town spa. It is truly amazing. But what amazes me the most is that when you went to the town spa, you also had nothing better to talk about than these kids who were texting other people while having their dinner. If you think about it, technology overall seems to be the one thing that is taking over everyones' lives. And these people are classified into two main groups. The first group is the group of individuals who seem to co-op with the technology, using it at such places as restaurants and other places. The other group seems to be those people who are overtaking by the thought of technology. These are the people that seem to make fun the new ideas of texting and talking on the phone. It's true that technology is diminishing the way we used to communicate. However, aren't we all in some ways guilty of over using this technology? When was the last time you said you don't need your cell phone for a week and can just use the house phone?
