I recently did a team building workshop with Mr. Dewar, Ms. Borini, and 40+ Norton students and athletes. What an experience I had! If this was fun for me, I can only imagine how much fun it was for them! I know I already have many kinesthetic activites in my class to get content across, but students are SO much more involved if they are active in some way. I took away that I need to do even more with movement and learning. I also made it a goal that day to learn everyone's name who I did not know and acheived that goal.
Mr. Dewar is right about taking lessons from the day and applying them to real life. I learned that I can work on my patience. I also learned that sometimes you have to step back and let others lead. I am so forward to go after the goal and start giving orders and delegating that I forget to give others a choice. I even had to not talk at all during one of the exercises (as prescribed by the councelor). The 50 foot rock tower was also a fun "little" add-on at the end. I was so very impressed that every student at least tried it. I was even more impressed at two students who said they were not going near that wall initially ended up scaling it faster than everyone else.
I felt like a kid again out there. As I was leaving the school one of my students said, "Mr. T you are so immature!" I responded to her "What else is there to be?" We have to do things in life like learn, work, etc., so why not have fun doing it. I guess I don't ever want to grow up! I think I'm in the right profession. :o)

Thank you for your comments Mr. Taylor. As for staying immature, KEEP IT UP!!! If we don't have fun, then we'll forget how to be a kid enjoying life......
My child attended the team building day and it was just fantastic, so glad she participated and was able to be challenged and interact with other students, some friends and some were acquaintances. It was a great expeience for students to be involved with many different types of people, not just their immediate friends.
Thank you for particpating with our children......and being a wonderful role model for them..
