The boys walked into the Reggie Lewis Center with one thought on their mind: settle for nothing less than a championship. However, after Norton's premier nationally ranked sprinter warmed up and was not ready to compete due to injury (Abu Ceesay), the team knew they had to step up. Junior and team MVP Justin Ireland did just that, going out and winning the 300 meters with a new personal record and placing 2nd in the 55 dash and scoring 18 points out of Norton's 101 total points. Justin also won the (non-scoring) long jump outright with a leap of 19' 6.5"! Justin also set the ALL-TIME TVL MEET RECORD in the 300 meters!
Also stepping up big for the Lancers was senior captain Mike Tierney, who was the TVL champion in the 600 meters, 2nd overall in the high jump, and was a member of the TVL champion 4x400 meter team. Mike scored 20.50 points for the team, 20% of the team's points!
Another big day for the Lancer boys was junior Camden Cleathero (12 points), who placed 2nd overall in the 55 hurdles and 4th overall in high jump. His hurdle run was a solid PR and statement to the league.
Senior Captain Cam Stalters (11 points) had the perfect season in the 55 hurdles, not losing once all season. He came out and asserted his dominance once again at the Championships and won it outright. Cam was also able to grab a 6th place in the high jump after only doing it for about a month! Congrats on your perfect season Cam!
Chris Wrenn had a solid run in the 1000 meters, placing second overall. He was also a member of the TVL Champion 4x400 relay team. Chris scored 10.50 points for the Lancers.
Sophomore Joey Annand was VERY impressive against the TVL field of senior distance runners in the mile and 2 mile. Joey started the meet running the mile placing 4th overall with a big PR of 4:33.77, only 1 second off of alumni Billy Sullivan's record. Less than an hour later, Joey doubled in the 2 mile, placing 4th overall and breaking his own school record with a new school record of 10:18.43!! Joey scored 8 points for the Lancers.
Senior captain Adam Winiarz was able to grab 5.50 points for the Lancers as being a integral part of their 4x400 TVL championship relay, a 5th place finish in the 300 meters, and a 6th place finish in the 55 dash.
TVL Champions: Justin Ireland, Parker Cleathero, Chris Wrenn, Cam Stalters, Adam Winiarz, & Mike Tierney |
Other top scoring placements on the day included Alex Carignan, who has worked so hard for 4 years and was able to grab a solid 4th place finish and 4 points for the Lancers in the 55 Hurdles. Congrats Alex! In only his second time running it all year, Sean Cappellini was able to grab a 6th place finish in the 600 meters with a new personal record of 1:31.21 securing a point for the boys.
