Norton Boys Finish as the Runner-Up Team at the Division 4 State Championships, An Incredible Feat

What a day it was for the Lancer boys this past Saturday.  The boys went in as heavy underdogs to eventual winner Northhampton, but brought the meet within a half of a point when all was said and done.  The Norton boys belonged with the best in the state this year, but Northhampton had their hands full.  Norton lead from the start, getting a first and second in the hurdles with Cam Stalters and Cam Cleathero.  Following that, Abu Ceesay and Justin Ireland got a 5th and a 7th in the 55 dash.  Mike Tierney was able to grab an 8th place in the 600 and then the powerhouse duo of Abu Ceesay and Justin Ireland flexed their muscles in the 300 going 1-2!  Camden Cleathero then grabbed a 5th place in the high jump with a leap of 5'10". Finally, the boys 4x200 team of Justin Ireland, Camden Cleathero, Adam Winiarz, & Abu Ceesay set the ALL TIME DIVISION 4 MEET MARK with a time of 1:32.40 for the win (previously held by Foxboro High School in 2004 with a time of 1:33.56)!  Then the 4x400 team of Mike Tierney, Chris Wrenn, Adam Winiarz, & Parker Cleathero ran a 3:32.47 for a new school record (previously held by Tim Johansmeyer, Jon Sicard, Keegan Campbell, & Kevin Rogers from 2010-2011) and a 4th place overall finish!

The overall top 10 team placements went as follows:

2.) Norton - 57.50 
3.) Pembroke - 40
4.) Burlington - 37
5.) Longmeadow - 34
6.) Wakefield - 24
7.) Marblehead - 22.20
8.) Groton-Dunstable - 21
9.) Danvers - 18.50
10.) Watertown - 17.20

 The Norton boys had the highest finish in team history.  They had an incredible day and have now shown that Norton has solidified itself as one of the best teams in the state of Massachusetts.

Norton had many athletes qualify and perform at the State Championships this year.  Below is a list of all the athletes and their marks:
