History made! |
The short Hopkinton track resulted in slightly shorter sprint races; yet the results were just as expected for the Lady Lancers in their title search. At the first gun, the Lancers seized the lead and never relinquished as they claimed a full sweep in the 45 yard hurdle events. Earning her first win of the year was Madeline Dolack (8.00) followed closely by senior captain Lily Holloway (8.20). Krystal Macdonald (8.57) continued her strong season earning another varsity point by capturing third place. The points continued to score in the 45 yd dash immediately after the hurdles. Macdonald used the hurdle warmup to earn a second place finish in the dash (6.71) while Caitlin Whiteside, despite slowing down early, still held on for a close third place (6.74).
The mile presented the first case of pack running as the conditions of the meet were not the preferred for a personal best performance. Nevertheless, the Lancers made the most of it by sweeping Bellingham in a blanket finish. Freshman Skye Goba (6:44) led the way followed closely by Destiny McGrath (6:46), who just outleaned senior captain Hannah Delea (6:47) for second. Meanwhile in the shot put, the throwers made quick haste of the field also sweeping the event. Led by Michaela Whiteside (29'-10.5"), the Lancers scored thanks to senior Amanda Hamer-Moreno (26'-4") and Erica Ransom (25'-2") who all got in their last competition throws prior to the TVL Showcase.
The Lady Lancers swept the next two events on the oval to add to their overall total. Senior Hannah Kubinski (1:59.2) led the way for Ashley Schepis (2:00.8) and Carly Murphy (2:01.4) in the 600 meter run while Lindsey Bingel (50.26) paced the younger Whiteside (51.05) and Kaitlin Russell (52.91) to solid long sprint performances in the 300 meter run. While in the 1,000 meter run, freshman Megan Cross (3:29.6) returned to her pre-injury form by winning comfortably as senior Sarah Kubinski (4:06.0) earned herself another varsity point in finishing third.
Bellingham opted not to field a 4x400m relay team which left the Lady Lancers with a 1600m victory race. In what winded up being a showdown with Dedham, the quartet of Bingel, McGrath, Hannah Kubinski, and Ashley Schepis utilized a strong separation leg by Kubinski to handoff to Schepis with a slight lead. She then extended the lead to a comfortable win in a time of 4:54.0, concluding the meet and the Girls TVL Small School Championship run.

Boys (3-2)
A similar team approach was utilized on the boys side with points scored in every single event in the victory. The Lancers opened up the meet with a win by senior captain Peter Rivard (6.70) in his first individual hurdle race of the season followed closely by James Partridge (7.44) earning third place. Rivard then took the 45 yd dash in a quick 5.75 seconds preceding his third and final win of the day in the high jump, as he scissored 4'-10" opening height to take the event. As he jumped, teammate Ethan Tetrault (5:15) jumped out front in the mile to grab a comfortable win followed closely by sophomore Sean Wynne (5:19).
On the infield, the Throws Bros earned the lone sweep of the day for Norton, with Jameson Macnaught (36'-6") launching a huge personal best, despite the slick throwers circle. Macnaught's heave earned him a comfortable first place finish over freshmen Alex Hamer-Moreno (34'-5") and Ben Litchfield (31'-6.25"). In the 600m run, it was more of the same as freshman Charlie Mills (1:46.7) continues his debut season with a comfortable win while Elliot Wilson (1:53.6) fought back hard to earn a varsity point by finishing third. Following the 600m, CJ Liebherr (42.64) found his was around the track the quickest to earn another W on the season while Tetrault (3:09.4) doubled back from the Mile to earn his second win in the 1,000m. Senior Nick Denham (3:16.4) came within earshot of his best to earn a second place finish in the event while Wynne (11:57) and James Wilson (12:38) both doubled back from the Mile to grit out a 1-2 finish in the 2 Mile, extending the Lancer lead in the process.
With the win intact, the 4x400m relay team took the track to conclude the meet. Mills and Hamer-Moreno faced head to head with Bellingham while Nick Chew grabbed the lead for good before handing off the stick to Liebherr. Exercising caution, the race was jogged in comfortably, securing the win in a safe 4:23.0.
