Norton D3 State Championship Medalists |
The Lancers went into the meet with high hopes and met many of those expectations. To start, sophomore sensation Paul Wisnaskas started his State Meet experience off on Thursday alongside another sophomore teammate Heather Kurland on Thursday in the Pentathlon. Paul was able to pull out the victory by a mere NINE points over junior William Lord of North Reading as the event came down to the final event contested, the 1500! Paul had to beat William by at least 23 seconds and did so by 25! It was just enough to pull out the victory and become the D3 STATE CHAMPION! Teammate Heather Kurland also pulled out some early points for the Lancers scoring 5 points with her amazing 4th place finish (moving up from her seed in 7th)! Coincidentally, both Paul and Heather placed the highest for their age: both sophomores-both with the youngest athlete placing the highest overall! Congrats to you both! Paul will move onto ALL-STATES this coming Thursday in the Pentathlon.
Moving on to Sunday's meet, Paul once again started off VERY strong with a solid runner-up finish in the triple jump with a leap of 43' 9" losing to a senior from Southeastern. Immediately after his 2nd place finish in the triple jump, Paul took to the track in the 400 Hurdles and won the event outright, taking the lead at the 6th hurdle and never looking back. Paul won his second D3 STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in the meet. Paul scored 28 total points for the Lancers! Paul will be also be moving onto the ALL-STATE Meet in the triple jump and 400 hurdles.
Also moving onto the ALL-STATE meet this coming weekend will be the boys 4 x 800 team of Austin Carroll, DJ Nihill, Sean Wynne, & Thomas Bingel who ran a season best time of 8:27.16 who placed 2nd overall to a very tough Burlington team. The 4x800 team scored 8 points for the Lancers!
The final competitor moving onto the ALL-STATE Meet is senior captain Corey Stalters who placed 5th in the javelin with a toss of 159' 11" and will move on with a wild card spot.
Other Placements for the Lancers included:
5th - Girls 4x800 (Bella Pietrasiewicz, Meg Cross, Shelly Belcher, & Lindsay Bingel) - 10:17.88
6th - 200 Meters - Kirsten Loring - 26.62* (*PR)
