The Lady Lancer track team completed the season with a 105-30 victory over the Mohawks of Millis. Overall 20 athletes from the 38 member team earned points to contribute to the big win. The day ended with a wonderful ceremony to send off our senior ladies, Paige Almeida, Capt. Erica Callahan, Capt. Stacie Linfied, Capt. Amanda Schliecher and Amanda Sullivan. The five seniors have made a lasting impact on our underclassmen. They have provided them with not only leadership, but moral support, training tips, a friend to laugh with, someone to run next to, and wise words of advice.
Throughout the season Paige Almeida has been a standout in the 400M and the 200M, who had season best times of 63.0 in the 400M and 27.1 in the 200M. She is ranked in the top ten in both events within the TVL. She has also been an occassional member of the 4X100, and 4X400 relay teams.
Erica Callahan, the distance captain, has been running the mile for the Lancers all season. She had her season best time in the Millis meet, 6:44.5, earning her third place. After suffering a back injury, Erica showed the underclassmen what dedication truly is by never giving up.
Stacie Linfield, mid-distance captain, was an amazing force on the team. Many of the girls looked up to her for her level-headedness and calm way of approaching tough situations. She began the season running the 800M and the 4X400 relay, and ended the season doubling in the Mile and 800M, a tough pairing. She tacked the challenge having several point earning finishes.
Amanda Schliecher, hurdle captain, is a strong and extremely organized member of the team. Amanda, also overcame and injury to participate in the spring track season. With her knee brace on, Amanda showed the team what it meant to get back into the sport, reguardless of what is thrown at you. She began the season slow, running the 100M and 200M, but by the last day she was able to fully participate in the 400M hurdles and 100M High Hurdles. Amanda also threw the shot put throughout the season.
Amanda Sullivan throughout the season ran the mile and threw the javelin. Amanda was a true role model for many of the younger runners, showing them the friendship that can evolve from athletics. She often was seen helping, running with and giving advice to the younger girls, keeping their hopes high and spirits light.
The seniors will truly be missed! Thank you all so much for all of the time and effort you have put into the Norton Track Team!
