CHAMPIONS: Norton Boys Defend State Relay Title & Break 2 Records (One State Record) & 4x200 Ranked 15th in the USA!

What an incredible night the Norton boys track team had at the Reggie Lewis Center at the Division 4 State Relays!  The boys pulled off back-to-back state relay titles and won their 4th straight state relay title in indoor and outdoor track. What the Norton boys have accomplished in the last 3 years at these meets is incredible.  To win the relays, a team needs to have a great deal of depth, and have at least 4 athletes in the running events and 3 in the field events. To score in the relay, they need to have multiple athletes who are quality athletes. At this particular meet, Norton brought 8 relays and ALL 8 of them medaled and scored for the Lancers. Only 41 teams actually placed in the top six and scored points.  The placements were as follows:

.) NORTON - 49 - *TEAM  CHAMPIONS
.) Milton - 38
.) Burlingon - 37
.) Marblehead - 33
.) Wakefield - 24
.) Northhampton - 20
.) Dighton-Rehoboth  - 19
.) Randolph - 16
.) Pentucket - 14
.) Watertown- 12
.) Danvers - 11
.) Melrose - 10
.) Foxborough - 8
.) Somerset-Berkley - 5
.) Quabbin Regional - 4
.) Groton Dunstable - 4
.) Medfield - 2
.) Tewksbury - 1
.) Swampscott - 1
.) Stoneham - 1
.) Triton-Regional - 1

Norton boys and girls brings home the team championship trophy and a lot hardware!

The boys broke 2 school records: the Long Jump Relay and the 4x200.  The school long jump relay was broken by Justin Ireland, Andrew Raneri, and Abu Ceesay with 17.15m total (previously held by Kevin O'Leary, Brandon Durocher, & Justin Ireland in 2012-2013). As for the 4x200.....well they not only placed 1st overall at the meet....but they broke their own school record of last year (previously a 1:32.07), destroyed the D4 state relay meet record of 1:33.3 set in 2001 by Mashpee High School, broke the ALL-TIME DIVISION 4 RECORD set last year by the same team minus now alumni Adam Winiarz, with current team member Andrew Raneri, and qualified for NATIONALS with that time.  The boys 4 x 200 meter relay is currently ranked 15th in the USA!!
