Girls & Boys Teams Win Season Openers Against a Tough Holliston Squad! Girls Win 69-67, Boys Win 81-55; Julia Palin breaks the SCHOOL RECORD in the 1 Mile!!

Julia Palin breaks the School Record in the 1 Mile! 
Congrats to both teams on their opening home meet victories against a tough Holliston Panther squad.  The girls won in a barnburner 69-67 while the boys won 81-55.

In route to the win, senior captain Julia Palin broke the existing school record of 5:14.33 (previously held by Katie Bradley-2016) with a 5:12.4 and a auto-state qualification. She also came back in the 200 later and grabbed a second there.

The definition of perseverance. 
Senior captain Mary Diestel amassed the most points of any of the Lady Lancers with 13 with her wins in the 400 hurdles, 100 hurdles, and second in the high jump.

Bella Pietrasiewicz narrowly missed a school record in the 2 mile (from 2002) with a smoking fast early season time of 12:01.4 and a auto-state qualification! The freshman phenom also started the meet off with a second place in the 400 hurdles!

Sprinters Julia Newell and Kirsten Loring won the 100 and 200 respectively, while helping the 4x100 relay also get the win (along with Alexa Sousa-Shumosic & Heather Kurland)!

Hannah Delea was able to bring home the victory for the Lancers with her impressive 2 mile finish for second place to grab the 3 points needed to win the meet. She also had previously grabbed a second in the 100 hurdles earlier on. 

On the boys side, freshman Paul Wisnaskas was the story of the day! Paul made statement in his first ever spring track meet winning ALL THREE of his events with a perfect 15 points! Paul won the 400 hurdles, 110 hurdles, & high jump and hit the auto-qualifiers for states in both hurdle events.

Senior Captain Ian Pereira did what he does winning both the 100 & 200.

DJ Nihill won the mile and anchored the winning 4x400.

Peter Rivard took home a victory in the long jump and grabbed a third in a very fast 400 meter field. 

Pat Bingel ran a great 2 mile (after competing in the high jump and placing 3rd) and won by less than 2 seconds!

Norton will next travel to Bellingham High School to take on both HAWK teams: the Bellingham Blackhawks AND the Millis Mohawks in a double duel meet on Tuesday, April 10th at 3:30!
