Rodriguez and Macdonald Compete at MSTCA Pentathlon

On Wednesday, teammates Eve Rodriguez and Krystal Macdonald competed at the MSTCA Pentathlon to complete the Lancers competition at the Reggie Lewis Center for the 2018-19 indoor season. Though the Lady Lancers needed three athletes to score as a team, the pair still managed to perform exponentially well in their final competition of the indoor season.

Kicking off the meet with the 55m hurdles, Macdonald (10.95 - 412 points) paced Rodriguez (12.91 - 146 points) out of the 11th and 13th heats respectively, as Rodriguez made her debut at the short distance hurdles. The pair placed 85th and 121st out of the 124 athlete field.

At high jump, Rodriguez made a splash clearing 1.42m (4'-7.75" - 534 points) for her strongest event of the evening, earning a tie for 26th place. Her jump ended up being the highest a Lancer high jumped on the season. Meanwhile, Macdonald managed to clear 1.27m (4'-2" - 379 points) for a strong 86th place finishing in the event for her second highest point total on the day.

Rodriguez continued her versatility to the shot put where she cracked 20 feet in throwing 6.37m (20'-10.75" - 295 points) placing 87th while Macdonald joined her in reaching 20 feet by throwing 6.16m (20'-2.5" - 281 points) to place 100th overall in the event. The two then moved onto the long jump where Rodriguez led her teammate by jumping 4.46m (14'-7.75" - 418 points) to finish 57th to Macdonald's 3.68m (12'-1" - 237 points) to tie for 114th.

The two finished off the evening by competing in the 11th heat of the final event: the 800m run. A mid-distance event, the pair executed a smart race strategy to finish and earn points and to not let the race run them down. Rodriguez broke three minutes to finish second in the heat in running 2:56.57 (398 points) while Macdonald remained strong to run 3:10.85 (271 points).

All smiles by the end of the night!
Rodriguez (1,791 points) wound up finishing 90th place overall while Macdonald (1,580) reached 106th place .
